Field Notes: If you're looking
for new ways to enjoy the wilderness, you can read about great
trip ideas using General Reference Center, an online database
with full-text articles from many popular print magazines. Titles
include Sierra, Audubon, National Geographic
Adventure, and many others. You can also find great wilderness
related articles from magazines such as Atlantic Monthly
and Mclean's. Lots of topics are available, including some
great reading on wilderness
areas. (If you're not inside an OWLSnet library right now,
you'll need your library card number to access the articles.)
Don't forget that if you're looking to find out what's happening
in the great outdoors, the folks at the Department of Natural
Resources are way ahead of you. They post a Wisconsin
Outdoor Report every Tuesday morning (except when Monday's
a holiday, then it's a day later.) Topics include local weather,
water levels, fishing and wildflower reports. What more could
you want? Well, if that isn't enough fishing info for you, you
might want to read the 2004
Wisconsin Fishing Report. Naturalist programs are listed in
events at Wisconsin State Parks, Forests, and Trails. And,
of course, don't forget the Silent Sports Magazine event
calendar. Every month, they post all sorts of activities all
over the state for quiet sports enthusiasts.
