Field Notes for Geology

From the USGS comes this amazing new map of the Lower 48 states. This map depicts the "most detailed and accurate portrait of the U.S. land surface and underlying rock formations." The map is available as a .pdf file as well as the accompanying pamphlet and a .zip file of the Photoshop layers making up the map. Also available is a website where you can find out how the map was made. Be patient ... the results are worth it but the download takes a long time!

Looking for a cool vacation that involves a geological field trip? The Geologist's lifetime field list contains links by subject to major geological locations. Even if you're not vacationing its a fun site for dreaming!
