Flights & Fares

Best Fares Quick Fare Finder
Best Fares has been promising this for months. It's finally arrived and better than I thought it would be. Just find the Quickfare finder box on the right-hand side of the page, use the dropdown menu to select your departure and arrival city, and click Search Now. Lots of sites may do this, but this one automatically selects alternate departure and arrival cities, searches Internet only fares, and gives you all of the details you need to select a flight. It's a winner!

Save some time and search Like a meta-search engine for travel websites, qixo searches over 20 major Internet sites to give you the best prices from all of the sites. The site is easy to use and the information is presented clearly.

ITA Software
This site is a little bit different than some of the others. It uses a new search engine, and enables you to sort your results by cheapest fares, shortest flight, or other options. It also allows you to specify how flexible you are on departure and arrival times and cities. You have to be careful that your departure city isn't different from the city you return to, but it can find some great fares. I booked my last flight here.

Other Airfare Sources - Almost all of the travel supersites offer online flight searching and booking. For an interesting discussion of how these services work, read John Levine's guide to route and schedule services. Here are some you can try that do not require registration.

Airport Directories - None of these seem to be comprehensive, so if you don't find the airport you're looking for, try another directory.
