Historical Weather Data

Weatherbase.com

Washington Post Historical Weather Database
Average temperature and precipitation data for 2,000 cities worldwide.

World Climate
Another database with historical weather averages for thousands of cities worldwide. Currently not as easy to use as Weatherbase, or the Washington Post site, but they say that a major upgrade is on the way.

Climate & Data Archives -- Green Bay NWS
Daily records for Green Bay back to 1997, state-wide monthly precipitation maps back to 1997, and Wisconsin storm data from 1999.

The Weather Underground
Six year daily archive of weather conditions for hundreds of cities worldwide. First select the city you wish to find. At the bottom of the daily forecast, you can then choose the date you want search. Starting in 1999 the database includes hourly data. Precipitation figures often seem to be not available.

Finding Information About Past Weather
Informative article from the USA Today Weather Almanac about how to find weather records for a particular day. Includes were to write for certified copies of weather data to use in court cases. National Climate Data Center (NCDC)
The NCDC is "the world's largest active archive of weather data." A great deal of their information is available online, either for free or for a small fee. That is the good news. The bad news is that connecting the NCDC and accessing the data can sometimes be slow and time consuming.
